Grails Diary - Week 52½ and 53 in 2015

04 January 2016

Groovy Newyear! this edition of the Grails Diary is highlighted by quite a few videos from SpringOne 2GX, but also a series of articles. Mr Haki already has 27 blog posts on Ratpack, those are worth checking out in case you wish to get started using Ratpack.

Jorge Franco, the inventor of Grooscript has taken a look back at what happened in the Groovy Ecosystem in 2015 a new start for the groovy language. Quite a lot has happened! And Jorge even leaves out the impressive improvements in the Grooscript project.

Groovy have started out 2016 in an impressive manner, jumping into top 20 on the TIOBE Index for January 2016. Last years January position was 82, and this year 17! The switch to the Apache Foundations seems to pay off big time.

Dan Woods have written up his thought on SpringOne dropping the 2GX part in Dropping The 2GX From SpringOne Is Good For Everyone, which is worth a read. There are other conferences that takes great care of the Groovy Ecosystem, just look at the section in the bottom of this diary. My experience from last years SpringOne was clearly the best presenters resided in the 2GX side of the conference, so maybe we should feel sorry for all the Spring guys that now does not have a decent alternative!

The extension module for vertx-groovy, grooveex, that adds methods and syntaxic sugar, has been released in version 0.5. The new feature is the multi-method feature matching many http methods.

The first Groovy Ecosystem conference of 2016 is just around the corner, as GR8Conf India is held on January 16th. You can find the videos from last years conference, and you can still buy tickets.

This is also a great time to submit proposals for Greach, and GR8Conf - EU and US. Deadlines are approaching fast
