Grails Diary - Week 15 in 2015 - The Greach Edition

15 April 2015

The best news from the busy week, which contained the Greach conference too, is the news that Grails has found a new sponsor! OCI (Object Computing, Inc.) from St. Louis in USA have announced the hiring of Graeme Rocher and Jeff Brown to lead its Grails product team. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has a full article on the news, and Jeff posted it on the Google Group forum. The last member of the Grails core team, Lari Hotari has joined Gradleware, along with Cedric from the Groovy team - congrats to all on the new jobs!

If you would like too have Grails 3.0 support in IntelliJ IDEA, this is a great time to vote for the Support for Grails 3.0 ticket at Jetbrains.

The issue tracker for Geb has moved to GithHub, since Codehaus will close down any day now. Marcin explains why the tracker has a separate project, and you can find the issues at https://github.com/geb/issues/issues

Another move due to the closing of Codehaus is the GPars website, now residing at gpars.github.io.. The website could use a helping hand :)

Cedric Champeau is searching for someone interested in taking over dev of Groovy Eclipse plugin. If you are, let him know on the dev mailing list.

The last episode of the Groovy Podcast featuring all of Ken Kousin, Peter Ledbrook and Baruch Sadogursky, discussed a lot of great issues, and had Dan Woods as a special guest to discuss Ratpack, and what to do with live reloading without Springloaded. The Groovy Podcast has gotten a cool logo too

The GVM tool will be renamed to SDKenv and have support for any SDK. You can see more in the slides from Marco Vermuelen's talk at Greach: GVM - Groovy enVironment Manager

Gretty, the gradle plugin for running web-apps on jetty and tomcat has been released in version 1.2.1 with websocket support and improved logging. The Groovy Document Builder is out in version 0.3.1, with fixes for spacing and positioning and consistency between word nd pdf.

Gr8conf EU will have an Iphone app this year: http://apple.co/1cbiWpP.. You can find a bit more news in the latest newsletter, and if you are really fast, you can reach to get your early bird ticket, but it should be now - no later than April 15th.

Registration is open for GR8Conf US with quite an impressive lineup. Registration for the EU version is also open

The Greach Conference

The conference was a great succes! Cudos to Alberto and Ivan for organizing it.

It was really inspiring, and the list of topics I "need" to check out further grew significantly. Some of my favority talks are Steve Pembers "Advanced Microservice Concerns", Burt Beckwiths "Little did he know", and Marco Vermuelens "Groovy and Scala: Friends or Foes", but the quality was generally very high. My favorite workshop was Russell Hart with the "Hands on Ratpack", which had a great format, with plenty of exercise material (end enough for several hours extra).

Tomás Lin has made a collection of Links for Greach 2015 from Twitter for slides and code, and in the botton of this diary, there is a special collection of tweets with material for Greach 2015, in case Tomas has missed anything (fx Schalck's 'In a nutshell' images). Hubert Klein Ikkink - mrhaki has written a blog post on his experience: Greach 2015 Conference Report.

You can find pictures from the conference at https://www.flickr.com/photos/jmiguel/sets/72157651465597470/

The talks will be published on videos, but some of the raw material is available at the youtube channel for Autentia Greach 2015. Friday 10th: Track 1 and Greach 2015. Track 2. Friday 10th
